The seventh conference of the Santander Biomedical Lectures program organized by IDIVAL, the University of Cantabria and IBBTEC will take place on the 22nd of March. The session will be given by Bente Langdahl and will be about:
“New clinical, genetic and pharmacological approaches to bone disorders”.
Bente Langdahl is graduated from the medical school at Aarhus University in 1988 and did clinical training in internal medicine and endocrinology at Aarhus University Hospital. Bente Langdahl received her PhD at Aarhus University in 1995: “Investigations on a possible pathogenic role of thyroid hormones in postmenopausal osteoporosis” and received a DMSc at the same university in 2004: “The genetics of bone mass and risk of osteoporotic fractures”.
In 2004 Bente Langdahl was appointed consultant at the department of Endocrinology and Internal Medicine at Aarhus University Hospital and research lecturer at Aarhus University. In 2012 Bente Langdahl was appointed professor at Aarhus University.
Bente Langdahl’s main research interests are identification and further investigation of genetic variants that imply increased risk of osteoporotic fractures, osteogenesis imperfecta in adult patients, interactions between fat and bone tissues, the impact of thyroid diseases and diabetes on bone health, the effects of vitamin D and K on bone metabolism, and the development of new treatments for osteoporosis.
Bente Langdahl is past-President of the European Calcified Tissue Society and the co-chair of the International Federation for Musculoskeletal Research.
The conference, that will take place on the 22nd of March, will be open to the general public and it will be at Marques de Valdecilla University Hospital, Salon Gomez Durán at 8.15am.
Bente Langdahl will be in Santander throughout the day, to exchange experiences with members of the scientific and clinical community. Furthermore, he will visit the Research Centers of our community to talk with all the interested scientists.

“The control of Hox Genes; From Mammalian Development to Human Genetic Syndromes”.
Denis Duboule is born in 1955 and is both swiss and french national. He studied biology at the university of Geneva, where he obtained a PhD in mammalian embryology in 1984. He then spent 10 years abroad, first as a group leader in the medical faculty in Strasbourg (France), then at the European Laboratory for Molecular Biology (EMBL) in Germany. In 1993, he was appointed full professor at the university of Geneva, where he chairs the department of Genetics and Evolution ever since 1997.
